Question by Tutti: can’t get copper mold pan clean? after a failed attempt at rum cake, my copper mold pan has this sticky/hard stuff on it. It’s on the silver-colored inside, not sure what metal it is. Of course I can’t put this in the dishwasher, so I haven’t done that. I have tried to hand wash it, soak it and scrub, soak it and scrap with plastic spatula. All have gotten very little off. I’ve been able to scrap a little off with my nails, but the little I’ve scraped off, leaves a residue that can’t be removed. Don’t really know what it is that is stuck on it. It’s is residue from the dough I used. Any suggestions? I can’t use it again until I can clean it. Thanks for your…. Click Here to Read More

by Earthworm Carbon Steels Are Widely Used For Plastic Mold Construction Medium-carbon steels are utilized in applications where greater tensile strength and toughness are required. Due to their higher carbon content they can be heat-treated to make parts such as studs, pins, axles, and nuts. Steels of this variety are more expensive as well as more difficult to machine and weld than low-carbon steels. It is possible to make prototypes of these materials appear just like hard-tooled plastic parts in terms of surface finish, color, accuracy, and material properties. Parts made of a cast urethane are ideal for marketing samples and test prototypes. They are worthwhile also when no more…. Click Here to Read More

All of this material started out generally as plastic pellets. The pellets are feed into one of the huge molding machines, these machines often weigh around twenty-five tons. The machine heats the plastic till it is liquid. This liquid is then forced thru injectors into molds. To put it simply, injection molding is the process of causing liquified plastic in to a mold hole. Once the plastic has cooled, the part can be ejected. It is useful when the parts are too complicated or cost prohibitive to…. Click Here to Read More

What Is It Like To Be A plastic mold Maker? Ok, raise your hand if you personally know a plastic mold maker, hmmm… I don’t see any hands up! Well, who knows what a mold maker does? This doesn’t look good, so I will try to give you a little insight into this unknown world. I have one of those “invisible jobs” that is seldom recognized, but universally valued. You see, almost everyone likes using their cell phone, computer, driving their car, playing CD’s, and generally enjoying the fruit of all our hard work. Yet, almost nobody ever thinks about where all this stuff comes from. In fact, I’ve been asked some very strange questions over the years about what I do, such as when my own mother….
