Should I remove the plastic coating from steel before cashing it in?

I have been saving for a while but this is my first time cashing it in. I just aquired some steel shelving units but the steel is coated in a clear plastic. Should I remove the plastic before taking it in to scrap? If so are there any easy ways of removing it aside from sitting down for hours and chipping it away?

clean metal is worth more, but no real need to remove it
