Kitchen scraps for composting…What can I use as a Counter top container?
Posted by admin in Question & Answers, tags: composting...What, container, counter, kitchen, scraps/For years I have been using an old coffee can or plastic container to keep my daily collection of Kitchen Scraps in until I can bring it out to the Compost Pile.
The problem I’m running into , (outside of the fact the it looks kinda “gross”) is that it seems I always have more scraps than the container can hold.
I have fantasized about a direct “shoot” from my kitchen that would go directly outside to a larger container that could be emptied once a week.
Has anyone seen or heard of such a thing?
or
Is there a container than can be purchased or some thing you have used or modified to better manage the “Kitchen scrap” dilemma?
Thanks
( Yes, I do fantasize about “other ” more interesting things as well :) lol

I think its a good thing that you need to empty ur scraps container frequently. You dont want the scraps to sit in the kitchen for a week and raise a stink, worse still invite some unwanted visitors.
As for the shoot, you would then also need something that will even out the pile at the end of the shoot and something / someone willing to clean the shoot often :-)
I’ve seen a stainless steel mechanism with two plates at counter level and then a foot pedal that drops the two plates down and everything on top of it into a bin that you can empty outside. Then the counter is always clean.
I use a old gallon ice cream bucket with lid. when full I dump and rinse out and reuse
