Is it worth fixing this problem, or should I throw in the towel?

It’s got a problem with starting, too much fuel gets into the throttle body and not enough air, and it reeks of fuel. Also the plug for the injector is covered in melted goop instead of that accordion-looking plastic piece those plugs are suppose to have. I can get a throttle body from the wrecker for $30 and wire in a not-melted plug, but will that fix the problem? It runs fine, though the oil is black as pitch and surely can’t be doing it much good. The tranny is on the way out, there was brown crud crusted on the dipstick and the fluid itself is a fine muddy brown. It shifts a bit hard, and shakes in reverse.
So the question is, with all of that, will replacing the throttle body fix the immediate problem, and make it worth selling at about $300-$500 or should I say the hell with it, get it started one more time (it doesn’t start unless the airfilter cover is off, and even then it takes some doing) and drive it to the wrecker to sell for scrap?
For all the abuse it’s suffered it runs pretty strong, it’s almost a waste to scrap it just yet, but I don’t know if simply replacing the parts will do anything.

All I need to see was 89 Cavalier. Throw in the towel.
Sometimes a car like that could go visit a car crusher…
You’re beating a dead horse..get rid of it..while you can still get to the scrap yard
It’s time to put this beast out to pasture.
The throttle body isn’t the problem. You have bad injectors. Replacing those won’t be cheap and then you get to find all the other problems the car has.
Somebody obviously didn’t maintain the vehicle judging by the oil. It would be a bad bet to try to fix up.
