Handbook of Plastic Foams: Types, Properties, Manufacture and Applications
Posted by admin in Plastics Engineering Books, tags: Applications, Foams, Handbook, Manufacture, plastic, Properties, TypesProduct Description
This book is intended to be a source of practical information on all types of plastic foams (cellular plastics) in use, including the new structural plastic foams. Elastomer (rubber-like) foams are also considered. The book is intended primarily for those who require a non-theoretical, authoritative, easy-to-use handbook in the subject area. It should be of value to materials engineers, plastics fabricators, chemists, chemical engineers and students. Recognized authorities have written several chapters and parts of chapters in their fields of expertise.
The book is organized in such a way that information on a desired subject can be found rapidly. An unusual feature is a comprehensive listing of all known standardization documents (test methods, practices, and specifications), including some international standards. Each document includes a brief description of its contents.

Okay, I will not kid you. This book is deathly boring. And, it’s really, really, over-priced as well. Do not spend your own money on this thing. Get your employer to buy it instead. Having said all that, I give this reference book 5 stars because it puts a lot of information on insulating foams in one place.
The only reason anybody would want to read this book is because they have to work with insulating foams. My interest in reading this was as a regulator who is looking into potential greenhouse gas emissions from insulating foam – I did not want to be a total novice when industry started throwing out terms like polyurethane, polystyrene, and polyisocyanurate.
I’m guessing if you work in the insulating foam industry, you already know all this stuff. However, if you are planning on interviewing for a job within the industry, this might make a good reference to give you a little background.
