eBags - Top Brands at the Best Prices

Hi, I’m a Korean high school student. I want to ask you of my school English exam question. Though it is very easy to you, but I’m confused. Read this passage ans tell me the right answer and reason you think.

Food scraps are a recent focus for recyclers in part because, unlike glass and plastic, organic waste will decompose once it’s put in the ground. But that becomes a problem in municipal landfills. As buried food breaks down in these oxygen-free environments, it produces methane, a greenhouse gas that has a warming effect 23 times as potent as carbon dioxide. Global methane emissions from garbage are estimated to be as high as 70 million tons a year. ______, it pays not to bury organic waste in the landfills but to recycle it, which can eliminate methane emissions.

Which is the best correct word for the blank?
1. Additionally
2. Similarly
3. Eventually
4. That is to say
5. Accordingly

Thank you!

    5. Accordingly means that what follows is a result of what went before.

  2. ShoRo says:

    Eventually.

Because the entire paragraph is against organic waste. It provides a number of reasons why organic waste shouldn’t be taken to the landfill. The final sentence is the conclusion to those arguments.

  3. Rose says:

    Accordingly

  4. Lexico says:

    You know what, ???
It looks like whatever response and supporting arguments people give, you are going to keep asking the same question until you get what you want to hear — ad infinitum if needs be.
“”Eventually”", you will get what you want — it’s called self-fulling prophesy.
I hope you get your test misgrading corrected; but the thing is, there is wide disagreement among native speakers themselves, so even statistics might not help you.
My view is that the question on your test was a mistake to begin with.
Any test question that entails amibiguity will “”eventually”" invite disagreemnt and controversy.
My advice to you is to gather what information you can, muster up your classmates and their parents, get a good lawyer to sue the school, and nullify the test officially.
“”Eventually”" justice will prevail. Good luck in getting a smart lawyer, which isn’t such an easy thing, but you will get there if you try hard enough “”eventually”".

    – note –

For those of you who might wonder at the somewhat odd sounding post, I should clarify my reasons.

From the repetition of an identical question, I have concluded that the OP is facing an extraodinary conflict involving the question. Having established this fact, I projected a scenario that might have caused the extraordinary conflict; students were given a faulty question on a school test or other. Consequently, I have given a meta-reponse both not to be redundant and to be offer practical advice.
