Because I am insane, I decided to break down the actual costs of the paper towels that Amazon.com offers. It is hard to tell because of varying roll lengths, sheet sizes, and case quantities. In the end, I found them cheaper elsewhere, but if you are an Amazon loyalist and/or like Subscribe & Save, you may be tempted to order them anyway. [Subscribe & Save discount shown in brackets.]
Cheapest per foot (most accurate measure of value):
SCOTT LONG ROLLS (case of 16) = $2.54 /100ft [$2.16 /100ft]
Cheapest per sheet with “regular” size (10″-11″) sheets:
SCOTT LONG ROLLS (case of 16) = $2.32 /100 11″ sheets [$1.98 /100 11" sheets]
Cheapest per sheet (mainly because sheets are smaller/half size):
SEVENTH GENERATION (case of 30) = $1.32 /100 5.4″sheets [$1.12 /100 5.4" sheets]
All, with analyses, below—
GREEN FOREST (case of 30) = $40.85 [$34.72 with Subscribe & Save]
65 sheets/roll (8.5″) x 30 rolls = 1950 sheets = $2.10 /100 sheets [$1.78 /100 sheets]
65 sheets/roll (8.5″) x 30 rolls = 1430ft = $2.85 /100ft [$2.43 /100ft]
SEVENTH GENERATION (case of 30) = $44.49 [$37.82 with Subscribe & Save]

KLEENEX VIVA (case of 32) = $47.31 [Subscribe & Save not available]
? sheets/roll (assuming 10″ sheets, there are 52) x 32 rolls = 1664 sheets = $2.48 /100 sheets

At a national discount retailer, this products “Bounty” cousin costs $17.58 plus tax for 12 Mega Rolls.
The specs on each Mega Roll read:
12 mega rolls (equal to 20 normal rolls)
2 ply – 25% thicker
160 two-ply 11″ x 6″ Sheets per Roll
In MN, with tax, 30 of these 12 Mega Rolls would total $46.92
But remember, you would get 160 11×6 Sheets per Roll – which translates to 80 full Sheets per roll.
The Amazon product description states: 52 Two-Ply 11″ x 11″ Sheets Per Roll. If you opt for the S&S program, you get 30 rolls, at 52 Sheets per Roll, for $38.25 and at this discounted price, if this product were 80 Sheets per Roll, 30 rolls would cost $38.25 times 80 divided by 52 equals $58.85 / including MN tax, $58.85 would buy you 5+ more rolls at the national discount retailer.
Therefore, at the title of this review suggests, only 52 sheets – while others offer 80 sheets for less. $11.93 less, at the pro-rated sheet count, to be precise. Another way to look at it, would summarize the national discount retailer sells the same product, pro-rated to 52 Sheets per Roll, at $30.50 (including MN tax) for 30 rolls.
Now, I am not specifically trying to out Amazon here, but in these tough times, you would hope that one of our favorite sources for discounted products would beat a national discounter by a few pennies. Not here though.

Bounty paper towels are great. I work in the film industry and besides Kim Wipes, this is THE paper towel of choice. It doesn’t break down when wet and can be re-used several times while working on a project.
I started an Amazon subscription with another paper product- the subscription price plus tax was comparable with what I pay in the supermarket, so I chose to go with it because of the convenience of having it delivered to my door on a regular basis. I live in the city and do own a car, but getting products in bulk can take some searching because they sell out quickly in my immediate neighborhood.
But these prices are about $20-25 more expensive over-all than with a purchase from a big box store when accounting for shipping & handling and tax. Amazon does not charge shipping and gives a fifteen-percent discount on their price at the time of shipping, but their price on this item is comparable to their vendors on the site and does not begin to compete with my local supermarket price for 60 count rolls.

These towels are great and last much longer than the cheap brands you find on sale for a $1 a roll. They pick up 4 times as much. The ease of having them come right to your door is invaluable, especially since gas is still about $2 a gallon and the time it takes to park, when you can find a spot, and not having to go out in bad weather because you forgot something. I also appreciate that I do not have to search througout the ever changing layout of the stores to find what I want. Shopping on amazon has made shopping effortless. That’s worth a lot!

These towels are great. We work in a cosmetics lab and need paper towels that really work. We have been using Bounty for years and can’t imagine changing. And we love Amazon’s auto-ship!
